Relative Risk

Meaning

Relative Risk (RR) is a core statistical measure used in clinical and epidemiological research to quantify the probability of a specific health outcome, such as developing a disease or experiencing a side effect, in a group exposed to a particular factor compared to a group not exposed. It is presented as a ratio, where an RR value above 1.0 signifies an increased risk associated with the exposure, and a value below 1.0 indicates a protective effect. Clinicians use this metric to communicate the magnitude of risk associated with various treatments, lifestyle choices, or hormonal states.
