Regression Discontinuity

Meaning

Regression Discontinuity is a rigorous quasi-experimental research design used in clinical and epidemiological studies to estimate the causal effect of an intervention or exposure. This method is applied when assignment to a treatment is determined precisely by whether an individual’s score on a continuous variable falls above or below a specific, predetermined cutoff point. In the context of hormonal health, this method can be used to rigorously assess the causal impact of a specific clinical threshold, such as a diagnostic biomarker level, on subsequent health outcomes.
