Regeneration and Repair

Meaning

Regeneration and Repair describes the continuous, essential, and highly coordinated biological processes by which damaged, senescent, or structurally compromised tissues and cells are replaced or restored to maintain optimal functional and structural integrity throughout the organism. While true regeneration implies the complete restoration of the original tissue architecture, repair often involves the formation of less functional scar tissue. These dual processes are fundamental to healthspan, actively opposing the cumulative, degenerative effects of aging, injury, and chronic stress.
