Refined Grains

Meaning

Refined grains are cereal grains that have undergone a milling process to remove the bran and germ, leaving only the starchy endosperm. This processing strips away significant amounts of dietary fiber, B vitamins, iron, and other beneficial phytonutrients naturally present in the whole grain kernel. Common examples include white flour, white rice, and many commercially prepared baked goods.
