Receptor Saturation Threshold

Meaning

This threshold defines the concentration of a circulating hormone required to fully occupy or maximally activate the available target cell receptors necessary to elicit a complete physiological response. Exceeding this threshold provides no further benefit (plateau effect), while falling below it results in an incomplete or blunted downstream signal. It is a critical concept in understanding the efficacy of hormonal interventions. We must consider this when interpreting free hormone levels.
