Receptor Resistance

Meaning

Receptor Resistance is a pathological state where target cells exhibit a diminished biological response to a circulating hormone, despite the hormone being present at adequate or even elevated concentrations. This loss of cellular sensitivity effectively blocks the hormonal signal, leading to functional deficiency symptoms even when lab tests show normal or high hormone levels. Insulin resistance is a common example, but this phenomenon can affect all endocrine axes, including thyroid and steroid hormone receptors. Overcoming this resistance is a critical step in restoring Endocrine Health Optimization.
