Receptor-Mediated Transport

Meaning

Receptor-Mediated Transport is a highly specific cellular process by which large molecules, such as certain hormones, lipoproteins, or growth factors, are selectively internalized by a cell after binding to a complementary receptor protein on the cell’s surface. This mechanism is crucial for the efficient and targeted uptake of essential substances that cannot readily diffuse across the cell membrane. It ensures that the hormone is delivered to its intended intracellular site of action or degradation.
