Receptor-Mediated Transcytosis

Meaning

Receptor-mediated transcytosis describes a cellular process involving the active transport of specific macromolecules from one side of a cell to the other, within membrane-bound vesicles, initiated by the binding of the molecule to a cell surface receptor. This mechanism facilitates the directed movement of substances across cellular barriers without entering the general cytoplasmic circulation or being degraded by lysosomes.
