Receptor Location

Meaning

Receptor Location refers to the specific cellular or subcellular site where a hormone receptor protein is situated, which fundamentally dictates the mechanism and speed of the hormonal signal transduction pathway. Receptors can be localized on the cell surface, such as those for peptide hormones like insulin, or intracellularly within the cytoplasm or nucleus, characteristic of steroid hormones like estrogen and testosterone. The density and precise location of these receptors are critical determinants of a target tissue’s sensitivity and ultimate physiological response to a circulating hormone.
