Receptor Density Management

Meaning

Receptor Density Management is the clinical strategy focused on modulating the number of hormone receptors expressed on the surface of target cells, thereby influencing cellular sensitivity to circulating ligands. Downregulation (fewer receptors) decreases sensitivity, while upregulation (more receptors) increases it, independent of circulating hormone concentration. Effective management ensures that hormonal signals are transduced efficiently across tissues. This is a key component of overcoming endocrine resistance.
