Receptor Coactivators

Meaning

Receptor coactivators are a class of proteins that interact with nuclear receptors, such as those for steroid hormones and thyroid hormones, after the receptor has bound its specific ligand. These proteins are essential for the full transcriptional activity of these receptors, serving to enhance gene expression by facilitating the recruitment of necessary transcriptional machinery. They do not bind DNA directly but act as bridging molecules between the activated receptor and the basal transcription complex, amplifying the hormonal signal within the cell.
