Rebound Resorption

Meaning

Rebound resorption describes an accelerated increase in bone turnover and subsequent bone loss after discontinuing potent anti-resorptive therapies, especially those strongly suppressing osteoclast activity. This phenomenon signifies a rapid shift in skeletal remodeling, leading to a temporary imbalance where bone breakdown significantly outpaces formation. It represents a physiological response to abrupt cessation of bone resorption inhibitors.
