Rebound Resorption

Meaning

Rebound Resorption is a clinical phenomenon observed primarily in bone health, characterized by a rapid and sometimes severe increase in osteoclast activity (bone breakdown) following the abrupt cessation of certain anti-resorptive medications, particularly those used to treat osteoporosis. This effect leads to an accelerated loss of bone mineral density, potentially negating previous therapeutic gains and increasing fracture risk. Clinicians must manage this effect carefully, especially in patients with hormonal deficiencies that compromise bone structure.
