Reasonable Adjustments

Meaning

Reasonable Adjustments, in the context of employer wellness programs and hormonal health, are modifications or accommodations made to a program’s requirements to ensure that an employee with a disability, such as a chronic endocrine disorder, has an equal opportunity to participate and earn any available incentive. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) mandates that employers provide these adjustments unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the business. For a health-contingent program, a reasonable adjustment typically involves offering a reasonable alternative standard to earn the reward if the employee cannot meet the initial health metric due to their medical condition. This ensures that employees managing conditions like type 1 diabetes or Addison’s disease are not unfairly penalized.
