Real-World Evidence (RWE)

Meaning

Real-World Evidence (RWE) refers to clinical evidence regarding the usage, benefits, or risks of a medical product derived from the analysis of Real-World Data (RWD), which is collected outside the highly controlled environment of traditional randomized controlled trials (RCTs). RWD sources include electronic health records, patient registries, claims and billing data, and data from wearable devices, offering a vast, heterogeneous perspective on treatment effectiveness and safety in routine clinical practice. RWE is increasingly vital in hormonal health for understanding long-term treatment patterns and outcomes across diverse patient populations, complementing the foundational data from pivotal trials.
