Rapamycin

Meaning

Rapamycin, also known by its generic name Sirolimus, is a potent macrolide compound initially developed as an immunosuppressant but now extensively studied for its profound anti-aging and longevity-promoting properties. It functions as a selective inhibitor of the mechanistic Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, a central regulator of cell growth and metabolism. Clinically, it is used to prevent organ transplant rejection and in the coating of drug-eluting coronary stents.
