RANKL/OPG Ratio

Meaning

A clinical and biological index that reflects the balance between bone formation and bone resorption, serving as a critical determinant of skeletal health and bone density. The ratio compares the levels of Receptor Activator of Nuclear factor Kappa-B Ligand (RANKL) to Osteoprotegerin (OPG), two key regulatory proteins in bone remodeling. A high ratio favors bone breakdown (resorption), while a low ratio favors bone building (formation).
