RANK Ligand

Meaning

RANK Ligand, or Receptor Activator of Nuclear factor Kappa-B Ligand, is a transmembrane protein primarily expressed by osteoblasts and stromal cells. This protein acts as a critical signaling molecule that binds to its cognate receptor, RANK, found on the surface of osteoclast precursors and mature osteoclasts. This interaction is indispensable for the differentiation, activation, and survival of osteoclasts, which are the cells responsible for bone resorption.
