Radiation Therapy Effects

Meaning

Radiation therapy effects describe the localized and systemic biological consequences that occur in the body following the clinical use of high-energy radiation, such as X-rays or gamma rays, for the treatment of cancer. The intended effect is the selective destruction of malignant cells. However, the term also encompasses the unavoidable collateral damage to healthy, adjacent tissues, which can result in significant long-term endocrine dysfunction.
