Quasi-Identifiers

Meaning

Quasi-identifiers are specific data attributes that, while not directly identifying an individual on their own, can be combined with other readily available information to potentially re-identify a person within a de-identified dataset. These elements, such as age, gender, postcode, or a rare diagnosis, do not serve as primary identifiers like a name or social security number, yet their aggregation significantly increases the risk of pinpointing an individual. Understanding these attributes is critical for maintaining patient privacy in health information systems.
