QTc Prolongation

Meaning

QTc prolongation refers to an extended duration of the QT interval on an electrocardiogram (ECG), corrected for heart rate. This interval represents the time from the beginning of ventricular depolarization (Q wave) to the end of ventricular repolarization (T wave), signifying the electrical recovery phase of the heart’s lower chambers. An abnormally long QTc indicates delayed repolarization, which can predispose the heart to electrical instability.
