Pulsatility

Meaning

Pulsatility refers to the characteristic rhythmic, intermittent, and non-continuous pattern of hormone secretion, rather than a steady, constant release, which is a fundamental property of the neuroendocrine system. This cyclical pattern, often occurring in discrete bursts or pulses, is essential for maintaining the sensitivity of target tissue receptors and for coordinating complex biological processes. Clinical assessment of hormonal status must often account for this inherent variability.
