Pulsatile Release

Meaning

Pulsatile Release describes the characteristic, intermittent secretion pattern exhibited by several key endocrine axes, most notably the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis and the Growth Hormone axis. This on-off cycling of hormone release, rather than a continuous infusion, is essential for maintaining appropriate receptor sensitivity and ensuring downstream signaling fidelity. Disruption of this natural rhythm, often through constant stimulation, leads to receptor downregulation and functional hyporesponsiveness. We observe this pattern in the secretion of GnRH and LH.
