Pulsatile GnRH Therapy

Meaning

Pulsatile GnRH Therapy is a specialized endocrine treatment that involves the intermittent, precisely timed intravenous or subcutaneous administration of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) to stimulate the pituitary gland’s natural pattern of hormone secretion. This physiological delivery method is utilized primarily to induce fertility in individuals with hypothalamic hypogonadism, a condition characterized by inadequate endogenous GnRH release, which prevents the proper function of the reproductive axis. The therapy mimics the natural, rhythmic pulsatility of the hypothalamus, thereby restoring the downstream secretion of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) necessary for gonadal function. Continuous administration, conversely, would suppress the axis.
