Pulsatile GnRH Secretion

Meaning

Pulsatile GnRH Secretion refers to the necessary, rhythmic, intermittent release of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus into the pituitary portal circulation, occurring in discrete bursts rather than a continuous stream. This specific pattern of release is absolutely essential for stimulating the anterior pituitary gland to secrete the gonadotropins, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which in turn regulate gonadal function and fertility. An alteration in the frequency or amplitude of these pulses is a common pathophysiological feature in many reproductive endocrine disorders.
