Pulsatile Dosing

Meaning

Pulsatile dosing is a pharmacological strategy that involves administering a therapeutic agent in short, intermittent bursts rather than a continuous, steady infusion or daily dose. This method is specifically designed to mimic the natural, rhythmic, and intermittent secretion patterns of endogenous hormones or signaling molecules, such as Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or Growth Hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). The goal is to maintain physiological receptor sensitivity and avoid the desensitization that often occurs with constant, non-physiological exposure. This technique is paramount in fertility and endocrine therapies.
