Pubertal Suppression

Meaning

Pubertal Suppression is a clinical intervention in pediatric endocrinology that utilizes specific medications to temporarily halt the physical and hormonal changes associated with puberty. This treatment is primarily used to manage Central Precocious Puberty (CPP), which is the premature onset of puberty, or in gender-affirming care for transgender and gender-diverse adolescents to delay the development of secondary sex characteristics. The goal is to allow time for diagnostic clarity or to align physical development with gender identity.
