PT-141 Therapy

Meaning

A targeted pharmacological intervention utilizing the synthetic peptide Bremelanotide, known by its designation PT-141, which functions as a melanocortin receptor agonist. This therapy is clinically indicated primarily for the treatment of generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women and is currently being explored for other sexual dysfunctions. The treatment involves the subcutaneous administration of the peptide to centrally activate specific melanocortin pathways, particularly the MC4R receptor, to modulate sexual arousal and desire.
