PT-141 Bremelanotide

Meaning

PT-141, chemically known as Bremelanotide, is a synthetic peptide drug clinically used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women and is also studied for male erectile dysfunction. It is an agonist of the melanocortin receptors, specifically the MC3R and MC4R, which are centrally located in the brain and play a key role in regulating sexual arousal and appetite. Unlike traditional sexual dysfunction treatments that target the vascular system, Bremelanotide works directly on the central nervous system to initiate sexual desire.
