Psychological Sequelae

Meaning

The enduring psychological and emotional consequences, or after-effects, that follow a significant physical or emotional trauma, a major medical diagnosis, or a prolonged period of physiological stress. These sequelae can manifest as chronic conditions, including persistent anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or significant alterations in body image and self-esteem. In hormonal health, this term is frequently used to describe the long-term mental health burden associated with infertility, chronic endocrine disorders, or cancer treatment.
