Psychological Hardiness

Meaning

Psychological Hardiness is a personality construct characterized by the combination of three core attitudes—Commitment, Control, and Challenge—that collectively confer resilience against the negative effects of high stress. It represents an individual’s mental and emotional capacity to view demanding circumstances as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable threats. This psychological state is intrinsically linked to a balanced physiological stress response. It is the cognitive shield against allostatic overload.
