Pseudotumor Cerebri

Meaning

Pseudotumor Cerebri, also formally known as Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH), is a neurological disorder characterized by the clinical signs and symptoms of severely elevated intracranial pressure without any evidence of an actual tumor or other space-occupying lesion on neuroimaging. The condition typically presents with debilitating headaches, pulsatile tinnitus, and, most critically, papilledema, which is swelling of the optic nerve head. It is an important syndrome in endocrinology due to its strong association with metabolic factors, particularly obesity, and certain hormonal medications.
