PSA Velocity

Meaning

PSA velocity is a clinical metric defined as the rate of change in the concentration of Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) over time, typically measured in nanograms per milliliter per year. Unlike a single PSA reading, which indicates current levels, the velocity is a measure of the trend, providing crucial information about the dynamics of prostate cell activity. A rapid increase in PSA velocity can be a more significant indicator of potential prostate pathology than a static, elevated level.
