PSA Doubling Rule

Meaning

The PSA Doubling Rule, or Prostate-Specific Antigen Doubling Time (PSADT), is a clinical calculation utilized to assess the velocity of prostate-specific antigen increase in men, primarily following definitive treatment for prostate cancer or in the setting of active surveillance. It quantifies the time required for the serum PSA concentration to double its value, providing a dynamic biomarker of disease progression. A shorter doubling time is generally correlated with a more aggressive tumor biology and a higher risk of metastasis.
