Protein Homeostasis

Meaning

Protein Homeostasis, also formally known as proteostasis, is the complex, highly regulated cellular network responsible for maintaining the correct balance of synthesis, proper folding, precise trafficking, and necessary degradation of all proteins within a cell or organism. This delicate, energy-intensive balance is absolutely fundamental to sustained cellular health, resilience, and longevity. Disruptions are hallmarks of biological aging.
