Prostatic Inflammation

Meaning

Prostatic Inflammation, clinically known as prostatitis, refers to the swelling, irritation, and cellular infiltration of the prostate gland, a common condition that can manifest as acute or chronic pelvic pain, urinary symptoms, and sexual dysfunction. This inflammation can arise from infectious agents or non-infectious causes, often leading to localized cellular stress and the sustained release of inflammatory mediators within the gland. The presence of chronic inflammation is increasingly recognized as a key factor in the development and progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and may influence prostate cancer risk. Addressing the underlying causes of this inflammation is a primary goal in maintaining long-term male urogenital health.
