Prostatic Epithelium

Meaning

The prostatic epithelium is the specialized layer of cells lining the acini and ducts of the prostate gland, responsible for the production and secretion of prostatic fluid, a key component of semen. This tissue is highly sensitive to androgens, particularly dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which regulates its growth, differentiation, and secretory function. Understanding the health and proliferation of this epithelium is central to managing conditions like benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
