Prostate Stromal Cells

Meaning

Prostate Stromal Cells are the non-epithelial, supportive cells that form the connective tissue matrix, or stroma, of the prostate gland. These cells primarily consist of fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells, alongside a network of nerves, blood vessels, and immune cells. They are functionally indispensable as they generate the extracellular matrix that provides structural scaffolding and, most importantly, act as the central mediators of hormonal signaling within the prostate. Their health and function are essential for maintaining the organ’s size and secretory capacity.
