Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA)

Meaning

Prostate-Specific Antigen, commonly known as PSA, is a glycoprotein enzyme produced primarily by the epithelial cells lining the prostatic ducts and acini. This protein belongs to the kallikrein family of serine proteases and is a normal component of seminal fluid. Its presence in the bloodstream, though typically in very low concentrations, is of clinical interest as an indicator of prostate cellular activity.
