Prostate Inflammation

Meaning

Prostate Inflammation, clinically termed prostatitis, is a condition characterized by the activation of the immune response within the prostate gland, leading to swelling, localized pain, and various lower urinary tract symptoms. This inflammatory state can arise from bacterial infection, though a significant proportion of cases are non-bacterial, often related to immune dysfunction, nerve irritation, or chronic pelvic floor muscle tension. Chronic inflammation is recognized as a key component in the progression of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and is considered an important risk factor for prostate carcinogenesis. Effective management focuses on resolving the underlying inflammatory cascade and alleviating patient discomfort.
