Prostate Health Index

Meaning

The Prostate Health Index (PHI) is a clinically validated, advanced blood-based diagnostic tool utilized to more accurately assess a man’s individualized risk for prostate cancer, offering a significantly higher specificity than the traditional total Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test alone. The PHI is a mathematical formula that integrates the measurements of three distinct prostate-related biomarkers: total PSA, free PSA, and pro-PSA, a specific, highly aggressive isoform of PSA. This enhanced, multi-biomarker panel helps the clinician better differentiate between common benign prostatic conditions and the presence of clinically significant prostate cancer, thereby reducing the number of unnecessary invasive biopsies. It functions as a sophisticated risk stratification tool.
