Prostate Gland

Meaning

The prostate gland is an accessory male reproductive organ, a fibromuscular and glandular structure situated just below the bladder, which encircles the urethra and is responsible for secreting a fluid that constitutes a significant portion of the seminal volume. Its growth, differentiation, and normal function are critically dependent upon the precise regulation of androgenic hormones, primarily testosterone and its potent metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
