Prostate Carcinoma

Meaning

Prostate Carcinoma, commonly known as prostate cancer, is a malignant neoplasm arising from the epithelial cells of the prostate gland, a small gland in the male reproductive system that produces seminal fluid. This condition is the most common non-skin cancer among men and its pathogenesis is strongly linked to androgen hormones, particularly testosterone and its potent metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which stimulate the growth and progression of the tumor. Clinical management ranges from active surveillance to hormonal deprivation therapy, underscoring the central role of endocrinology in its treatment.
