Proprioceptive Signaling

Meaning

Proprioceptive Signaling is the continuous, non-conscious stream of afferent neural information transmitted from specialized sensory receptors in the muscles, tendons, and joints to the central nervous system, providing real-time data on body position, limb orientation, and muscle tension. This internal sensory feedback is fundamental for executing coordinated movement, maintaining posture and balance, and allowing for the subconscious refinement of motor commands. It acts as the body’s internal GPS system, constantly informing the brain of the physical state.
