Propensity Score Matching

Meaning

A powerful statistical methodology employed in observational research to estimate the treatment effect by creating a synthetic control group that is comparable to the treatment group on the basis of observed characteristics. The technique calculates a propensity score, which is the conditional probability of receiving a specific treatment given a set of baseline covariates. By matching subjects with similar propensity scores, this method effectively reduces confounding bias, allowing for more valid causal inferences in non-randomized studies.
