Programmed Cell Death Suppression

Meaning

Programmed Cell Death Suppression, also known as apoptosis inhibition, is the biological process of actively preventing the deliberate, self-initiated dismantling of a cell that is no longer needed or has become damaged, thereby prolonging its functional lifespan. While essential in development, inappropriate suppression can lead to cancer, yet controlled, temporary suppression in specific contexts, such as tissue repair, can enhance regeneration. In the context of longevity, it refers to protecting healthy, functional cells from premature, unnecessary apoptosis.
