Progesterone Co-Therapy

Meaning

Progesterone co-therapy refers to the clinical practice of administering progesterone or a synthetic progestin concurrently with estrogen therapy, a protocol mandated for individuals undergoing hormone replacement therapy (HRT) who still possess an intact uterus. This concurrent use is not primarily intended for the relief of menopausal symptoms but serves the vital protective role of counteracting estrogen’s potent proliferative effect on the endometrial lining. It is a necessary and non-negotiable component of safe and balanced hormone replacement when the uterus is present.
