Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines

Meaning

Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines are a class of signaling proteins, primarily released by immune cells, that actively promote and amplify systemic or localized inflammatory responses within the body. These molecules, such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α), are essential for acute defense against pathogens and injury but become detrimental when chronically elevated. In hormonal health, their persistent presence is strongly associated with insulin resistance, adipose tissue dysfunction, and the suppression of anabolic hormone production.
