Pro-Hormone Depletion

Meaning

Pro-Hormone Depletion describes a clinical state characterized by significantly low circulating levels of precursor molecules, such as DHEA, pregnenolone, or progesterone, which are essential for the downstream synthesis of active sex and adrenal hormones. This depletion is often a consequence of chronic stress, aging, or prolonged inflammatory states, forcing the body to prioritize cortisol production (the “pregnenolone steal” phenomenon). The resulting deficiency limits the body’s capacity to produce adequate levels of vital hormones like testosterone and estrogen, leading to systemic decline. Identifying and correcting this depletion is a key step in hormonal restoration.
