Pro-Atherogenic Lipid Profile

Meaning

A pro-atherogenic lipid profile describes a pattern of circulating blood lipids that significantly increases an individual’s risk of developing atherosclerosis, which is the pathological hardening and narrowing of the arterial walls. This unfavorable profile typically involves elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), particularly the small, dense LDL particles, and triglycerides, coupled with undesirably low levels of protective high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). It is a key clinical marker for assessing and managing overall cardiovascular risk.
